Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park to Host
I LOVE MY PARK DAY May 2, 2015
Volunteers Participating at Events Across New York to Celebrate State Parks and Historic Sites
The Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park (FOHBSP) and Hamlin Beach State Park personnel will host volunteers as part of improvement and beautification projects happening statewide on Saturday, May 2, 2015. I Love My Park Day is an exciting statewide event to improve and enhance New York State’s parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire state park system and its needs. Volunteers from across the state will participate in clean-up, improvement and beautification events at New York State parks and historic sites. Volunteers will celebrate New York State’s park system by cleaning up park lands and beaches, planting trees and gardens, restoring trails and wildlife habitat, removing invasive species, and working on various site improvement projects.
The FOHBSP have several projects planned for this year’s I Love My Park Day. One is planting tree seedlings in the park’s existing tree nursery. Two other projects are planned in the campground area: sprucing up the bathrooms in Loop C with fresh interior paint and weeding the basketball court. The final projects will occur at the former Civilian Conservation Corps/ WWII Prisoner of War Camp on Moscow Rd. The vegetable garden that was created last year during I Love My Park Day needs to be prepped for this year’s planting, and the grounds of the CCC/POW camp need a general clean-up of fall and winter debris.
I Love My Park Day is coordinated at the statewide level by Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) in partnership with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP).
Those interested in participating in any of the I Love My Park Day projects at Hamlin Beach State Park can register to volunteer by visiting www.ptny.org/ilovemypark. All volunteer groups will initially gather at the Hamlin Beach State Park Area 1 Shelter.
